EUS 2021 Honorary Chairs:

Sister Mildred Haipt and the Ursuline Sisters

Sister Mildred Haipt served as a member of the inaugural Steering Committee to make the dream of Serviam Girls Academy a reality. She also served as Chair of the Board of Members from its incorporation in August, 2007 until May, 2018, attending every Board meeting for 12 years! Sr. Mildred’s fondest contribution was her service as our librarian, prayer leader, confidant, and role model for 3 - 5 days per week for 10 years. She continues to pray for the Serviam family.

The Ursuline Sisters have been a part of the Serviam vision since its inception, providing inspiration, guidance, prayers and financial support over the last fourteen years. In addition to our beloved Sr. Mildred, Ursuline sisters serve on our Board of Directors, are loyal participants in all Serviam events and appeals, and provide essential program funding annually, including funding for a resource teacher, civic engagement, writing immersion projects, and most recently our Expansive Classroom  project designed to immerse project based learning into our curriculum. The spirit of St. Angela Merici, the founder of the Ursuline order, is intimately interconnected with our mission; serviam, latin for “I will serve” is the motto of every Ursuline school in the world and a vital part of a Serviam education.

Evening Under the Stars 2021 Virtual Soiree Emcees:

Danielle Black and Rev. Edwin Estevez

Danielle Black is Serviam's beloved Science teacher who also has a great love and appreciation for creativity, KPOP, board games, and Asian dramas. When Danielle first stepped into Serviam, she knew it was a special place. She got to work with scholars while exploring the world of Science. What inspires her to teach is witnessing that moment when a student finally grasps a concept as well as learning new things herself. It is her philosophy that anyone who is willing can learn anything. This is Danielle’s 5th year teaching at Serviam Girls Academy.

Rev. Edwin Estevez serves as Senior Pastor at Grace Church in downtown Wilmington, now the home of Serviam Girls Academy. The son of Guatemalan immigrants, he grew up in North Jersey. He is thankful to God for the support of his wife, Dr. Merideth Hite Estevez and his daughter Eva Ruth, and eagerly anticipates the arrival of Baby Eli in May. Rev. Edwin acknowledges, "As I led Grace Church in discernment about how to use our spaces for better community engagement and missional outreach in a sustainable way, Serviam Girls Academy has truly been an answer to prayer, a gift from God, and we all continue to be amazed by your student development, leadership, hard work, and mission!"
